Kim Darst with her team of 26 Alaskan Huskies are the first New Jersey team EVER to make it to the Historic Alaskan Iditarod Sled Dog Race!

Kim Darst is a homegrown Blairstown NJ gal who is the first New Jersey person to qualify for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska. Recently the New Jersey Star Ledger newspaper gave her a spotplight in their "I Am New Jersey section". She has several exposures in numerous state and local newspapers. Recently Kim has been written up in the Associated Press. She has also appeared on New Jersey's Channel 12 Television station and local radio shows. Because the Iditarod challenge is very expensive, we are seeking organizations who wish to sponsor Kim cover these enormous costs of this chance of a lifetime. Names of major donors will be printed on her sled dog snow parker and dog truck. If they have a web site we will Link to their site. Remember she will be traveling with her dogs as she drives all across the USA to Alaska. All donations will be mentioned on her web site. For her part Kim has a full time job at the airport giving flying lessons, tour rides and photo shoots, and well be managing her own airport in PA. She has had to also work part time at other jobs to help cover the expenses just to feed and train in local events. Kim has a dream and she will with your help make it happen.

Mushers entering the race spend a good year just getting ready for the race . They work around full time jobs to raise funds not only to enter the race but to purchase required supplies and food for the dogs. The team has to last for three weeks on the trail, this requires Kim to have supplies at 26 check points. They also have required veterinary services and items for the dogs health and condition. These animals can be taken off the team for various health concerns. Dog booties alone cost more than $ 2500!. Entry fees of $ 5000 or more can be required. It is estimated that $ 100,000 dollars will be required to participate in this amazing race.

Kim's quest for adventure and love of nature led her to acquiring a Samoyed in 1997. This started her adventure into sledding dogs. She began with her Samoyeds Noah and Joey; then eventually by 2002 started acquiring Susan Butcher's Alaskan husky dogs (Prarie Dawn, Cujo and Cornie).
